Album Review: Get It Right by Heavens Edge

Straight from the streets of Philly, ‘80s hard rockers Heavens Edge are back with a kickass new album after over 2 decades since their last release. The band has faced many hardships over the years, most recently the death of their beloved bassist, George G.G. Guidotti, back in 2019. After this tragedy, it seemed like it would be the end for Heaven’s Edge. And it was, until vocalist Mark Evans met an incredible bassist by the name of Jaron Gulino. Known for his work with ‘90s alternative rock group Tantric and modern hard rock band Mach 22, Gulino was the saving grace for the band – they would be able to go on. They band has since played huge shows from the Monsters of Rock Cruise to M3 Rock Festival and more, honoring their fallen member with the same energy and fire they had way back in 1987.

Heavens Edge are dropping their 3rd studio album on May 13, titled “Get It Right”. The album opens with a count-in to an intense bass riff, I’m immediately drawn in. That opening track, Had Enough, channels the total classic Heavens Edge style and attitude. The tune comes to an abrupt ending leaving you wanting more, but before you know it you’re grooving to the intro solo of Gone, Gone, Gone. The next track, Nothing Left But Goodbye has a southern rock vibe using slide guitar as well as acoustic guitars throughout the song. Evidently the band is drinking the same water as their Philly rock n’ roll brothers Cinderella.

What Could’ve Been was the second single released from Get It Right, and I have to say, it might be my personal favorite. It’s a hella catchy power ballad with solid vocal harmonies and modern production. Following What Could’ve Been is another mellower tune – When The Lights Go Down. This track is a quintessential arena rock ballad, which this album is certainly not lacking. Before you know it, you’re back into straight up heavy rock n’ roll with melodic, riff-filled tunes such as Raise Em Up and 9 Lives (My Immortal Life). The next song, Dirty Little Secret stood out as being quite different from the typical Heavens Edge sound, with a similar vibe to ‘90s and ‘00s alternative rock acts like Lit and Hinder. Beautiful Disguise showcases a sick bassline from Jaron Gulino behind catchy hooks, absolutely ripping guitar, and hard-hitting drum grooves. Closing out Get It Right is another in-your-face hard rock tune – I’m Not The One.

Overall, this upcoming release from Philly hard rock band Heavens Edge demonstrates an immense amount of growth from their previous releases. With more modern production, more mature songwriting and simple yet effective progressions with tasty guitar leads, Get It Right is the comeback we’ve been anticipating from Heavens Edge for years now.
