Album Review: “Dirty Honey” by Dirty Honey

L.A. rock band Dirty Honey have released their self-titled debut album! The album was produced by Nick DiDia who is known for his work with Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and others. After the success of their first EP in early 2019, these guys are raising the bar of rock n’ roll! The album opens with the track “California Dreamin’”. With it’s groovy guitar licks and catchy choruses, this song would’ve been a clear chart-topper in the ‘70s. It seems that guitarist John Notto takes inspiration from Aerosmith with his riffs on songs like “The Wire” and “Tied Up”. Something to be appreciated about Dirty Honey is their very prominent, very vibrant bass parts – especially noticeable in “Take My Hand”.

Every band member of Dirty Honey has something unique about them and collectively they make one of the greatest rock bands of the modern era. The second half of the album maintains the high-energy rock anthem style of the first half. “No Warning” is the perfect song for flying down the highway without a care in the world. When songs like “Gypsy” and “The Morning” kick in, you’ll be dancing and rocking along before you know it! The album closes with a fantastic slower, ballad-like song titled “Another Last Time”. Just hearing that song I can visualize the lighters and flashlights illuminating the crowd. Dirty Honey’s self-titled album is setting a new expectation for what it means to play rock n’ roll.
