EP Review: “Paint The Sky With Blood” by Bodom After Midnight

Back in January 2020, Children of Bodom members Alexi Laiho and Daniel Freyberg announced their new project Bodom After Midnight. After Alexi’s untimely passing in December 2020, fans and friends alike were devastated. With the announcement that Bodom After Midnight would release a three-song EP, fans were thrilled to hear one last release from the legendary Alexi Laiho. On April 23rd, Bodom After Midnight released their EP “Paint The Sky With Blood” via Napalm Records. The EP opens with a fiery title track – totally reminiscent of classic Bodom. With driving guitar riffs layered on pounding drums paired with great bass, synth and Alexi’s signature vocals – no song should be skipped. The second track, titled “Payback’s A Bitch”, is the fuel for headbangers worldwide. The addition of synth to these tracks really adds to the depth of this release. The EP closes with a cover of Dissection’s “Where Dead Angels Lie”. While “Paint The Sky With Blood” is just one small piece of Alexi Laiho’s legacy – it’s a damn good one.

“Like ourselves, Alexi was beyond stoked about these songs and anxious to get these out, so we are happy that we can fulfill his wish. Needless to say, we are honored and proud to be a part of his very last creative work and to unleash it the way he wanted it. It’s time to let the beast out of the cage one more time as a celebration of Alexi’s music, legacy and the man himself.”
