Swedish hard rockers, Eclipse, are back with their tenth studio album, Megalomanium, and it is one you do not want to miss. Forming back in 1999, Eclipse have continuously stepped up their game with each album release, the heavy rockers never disappointing their ever growing fanbase. Megalomanium being no exception, being one of their top releases to date. From anthemic chorus’ and big hooks, to melodic guitar solos, Eclipse continue to prove themselves as one of the best hard rock bands of the current century.
The first single, The Hardest Part is Losing You, kicks off the album. An edgy power ballad with loud guitars and a thumping drum beat that’ll have you headbanging along. It starts off the album in a perfectly interesting way, leaving you excited for what’s to follow. The energetic second single, Got It!, is up next, keeping the listeners captivated with its adrenaline inducing chorus and a powerful vocal delivery by Erik Martensson. Paired with a high energy music video, Got It! was a perfect single choice and represents what the band is all about. A heavy rock band who enjoys what they do and know how to have fun.
The high energy continues with Anthem and Children of the Night. Self explanatory with its title, Anthem is an anthemic hard rock track that’ll have you singing along after only a few listens. Children of the Night has a Scorpions meets Dokken feel. A heavy guitar riff and lyrics with a mystical feel, this track screams mid-1980s.
Hearts Collide, the third single released and I Don’t Get It, fall midway through the album. An upbeat rocking track with happy and positive lyrical content, Hearts Collide, will easily get stuck in your head, and you won’t be mad about it. A personal favorite off the album, I Don’t Get It, has the rebellious vibe that a lot of the hard rock of the 80s contained. Crunchy guitar tones and a melodic solo, the perfect blend of tones, making this a staple on the album.
The second half of the album consists of the very lyrically relatable The Broken, The Modern Rock influenced So Long Farewell Goodbye and the heavy guitar driven High Road. Eclipse stays energetic with Megalomanium, each song consisting of either anthemic tones, heavy guitars, and drum beats that have you headbanging along. One Step Closer To You and Forgiven close out this extremely solid album with a band, both songs containing strong songwriting that the entire album contains.
Eclipse have consistently upped their game with every album they’ve released. This being the tenth release from the band, it proves how tight a unit this band is. Their musicianship never faltering, whether it’d be in the studio or live on the stage, Megalomanium is one of the strongest albums of 2023.
