Griffin Tucker is the lead guitarist for rising L.A.-based rock band Classless Act. The band released their debut single and music video “Give It To Me” in July 2021 and that same day it was announced they would be opening for the legendary bands Motley Crue and Def Leppard on ‘The Stadium Tour’ next summer. We got the opportunity to talk with 19 year old guitarist Griffin Tucker about carrying the torch of rock n’ roll with Classless Act.
Shannon: How did you get into rock music and what made you say ‘I want to be part of that’?
Griffin Tucker: Well when I was 6 months old, I had this terrible condition called RSV and I was stuck in the hospital for awhile. The only thing that would ever calm me down was classical music so that’s what I was hearing from about 6 months old to 2 years old. Then when I was around 3, I heard my first Beatles song on the way to school. After that I saw the Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan show and I thought ‘that’s what I wanna do’.
Shannon: You’ve had a solo career for quite some time now and you’ve grown your social media following from that. With social media now we’re able to form bands in the same way Classless Act formed. How did social media help you connect with the other members of the band and how did you all end up working together?
Griffin Tucker: Well social media is the main reason I was able to join the band. Our manager Rick was scrolling on TikTok one day and he came across one of my videos called the Perfect Pitch Challenge. Basically my friends and I were sitting around a piano and they would play some notes and I would guess what they were. Rick liked what he saw and he checked out more of my videos and eventually asked me if I wanted to come audition for the band. So TikTok is the reason I got to join the band.
Shannon: It was recently announced that Classless Act would be joining the Stadium Tour with the legendary acts Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett. How does that happen?
Griffin Tucker: Oh my gosh, I honestly have no clue. We got the news and we were all left speechless. We’re so grateful that we are going to be able to meet all these people that we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to meet.
Shannon: How have people received that announcement? I know a lot of people can be skeptical of newer, younger bands.
Griffin Tucker: There are a lot of different reactions, but it’s amazing to see an overwhelmingly positive response. We’re grateful to have those eyes on us.
Shannon: Since you guys have only released one single so far, I imagine you have plans for an album or EP in the near future?
Griffin Tucker: We’re going to be releasing our album sometime next year and there will be plenty of singles and an EP before then. It’s all recorded so it’s just a matter of releasing it all.
Shannon: Name 3 of your favorite classic bands and 3 of your favorite modern bands.
Griffin Tucker: My top 3 classic bands, it’s been this way for awhile, number 3 is Queen, number 2 is Led Zeppelin, and number 1 is the Beatles. My favorite new modern bands are Jet, Rival Sons, and of course Greta Van Fleet.
Shannon: What do you have in mind for your future as a rock musician?
Griffin Tucker: The goal for the future is to reach more people in any way, shape or form. Shows, livestreams – anything. I’ve wanted to share this gift I’ve been given with as many people as I can. I want to spread joy and love to as many people as I can because we can all use a little more of that.
