Single Review: “Nola” + “Pirate Love” by Faster Pussycat

Straight from the Sunset Strip, sleaze rockers Faster Pussycat have released two singles – an original track titled “Nola” and a cover of Johnny Thunders’ “Pirate Love”. After 15 years without new music from the infamous Faster Pussycat, the world is finally digesting this brand new era of the band with these two slammin’ tunes.

“Nola” is everything you’d expect from classic FP and more. Founding member and vocalist Taime Downe’s signature raspy vocals perfectly compliment the gritty guitar sounds. The addition of the talkbox and keys gives the song its own unique flavor of the sleazy rock n’ roll that Faster Pussycat fans have always loved.

“Pirate Love” was originally played by Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers in 1978. The first thing that stuck out to me with Faster Pussycat’s version of this song was the crisp drum sound and groove established right off the bat. Overall this is a solid rock n’ roll tune taking you right back to your teenage years or maybe even time on the Sunset Strip.

With each core member of the band and the fantastic addition of Tyson Leslie on keys and Gilby Clarke mixing these singles – Faster Pussycat is back with a vengeance.
